无效运输是指没有任何经济社会效益的“不合理运输”。常指物资中所包含的无使用价值的那部分杂质的运输。如煤炭中的矸石、原油中的水分、矿石中的石头等。不仅浪费车船运力，且使消费单位不能得到保质保量的产品。减少无效运输的办法是：物资生产部门要重视产品质量.特别是采矿部门，要尽可能配置洗选设备；运输部门要优先输送精料，不运或少运粗料；产品实行按质论价，低质产品就地消费，不作长途调运。
这两种物资之所以无效是因为它们并不适合居住，且单位造价高、运输不便、不够灵活。
