新闻失实，是指新闻报道中事实不准确和不真实，或加入了有偏见的解释以下的报道方式可能造成新闻失实：（1）突出强调并不真正重要的事实，或把次要的事实与重要的事实混杂在一起；（2）把各种零散事实、部分事实拼凑成新闻，作为事实整体加以描述；（3）曲解事实；（4）炒作（强调和放大）事实；（5）对事件中应该披露的某些事实不报道。造成新闻失实的原因大体有以下几种：（1）过分迎合受众兴趣或遵从组织意图；（2）记者为了文章动人以主观意图安排事实；（3）采访不深入、表达不准确、编辑不慎、工作制度不健全等。
