新闻价值要素是指新闻事实自身具备传播价值的主要因素，也叫新闻价值标准，它是新闻传播者对新闻事件进行选择的主要依据。一般说来，构成新闻价值的要素包括：新鲜性、重要性、接近性、显著性和趣味性。各要素之间的关系并不是并列均等的。真实是第一位的，是新闻的生命，它包含在各个要素之中，有的新闻新鲜性强，有的新闻接近性强，还有的趣味性强。当各要素都很丰富都很强时，这个新闻的新闻价值就越大。无论哪个要素或强或弱，真实性和新鲜性是必须具备的。
