文摘，检索刊物中描述文献内容特征( 文献提要 )的条目（也包括题录部分），是一种文献著录的结果。根据国际标准ISO214-1979(E)的规定，文摘是“一份文献内容的缩短的精确表达而无须补充解释或评论”。中国国家标准GB3793-83 规定，文摘是“对文献内容作实质性描述的文献条目”。具体地说，文摘是简明、确切地记述原文献重要内容的语义连贯的短文。一系列文摘条目有序排列，即构成文摘杂志，它是比目录式检索刊物更为有用的检索工具。
