在地质勘查或勘探工作中，为了揭露被覆盖的岩层或矿体，在地表挖掘的沟槽。坑探工程之一。探槽一般采用与岩层或矿层走向近似垂直的方向，长度可根据用途和地质情况决定。断面形状一般呈梯形，槽底宽0.6米，通常要求槽底应深入基岩约0.3米，探槽最大深度一般不超过3米。
