指腹是手指腹侧或掌侧部分。有较厚的皮肤，其角质层较厚，皮下有较厚的脂肪垫，并且有很多垂直的纤维间隔，将皮肤与指骨、腱鞘等深部组织相连，再加上远侧指间关节横纹皮下亦有纤维隔，使指腹成为闭合的间隙，可以避免皮肤的滑动，以适应握、捏动作与物体直接接触的需要，保持握物稳定。指腹皮肤富有汗腺，但无毛发，也没有皮脂腺。狭义的指腹是专指手指末节腹侧部分。
