报道性文摘是一种全面、准确地报道原文内容的摘要。它是原始文献的浓缩情报，不仅描述文献的主题内容和范围，还提供文献的发现，论据及应用范围，通常还包括所使用的方法、数据、设备等其它重要内容。它包含的信息量大。实用价值高，读者通过阅读这种文摘，一般可以代替阅读原文。对帮助读者了解某些不易得到的文献，以及克服语言障碍有重要作用。
