技术商品是可以实施市场交易的技术产品，是指以交换为目的的技术产品。它是一种特殊的商品，即知识形态商品或包含知识形态实物。技术商品不同于一般商品的特点是：(1) 具有较强的时间性，技术商品投入生产过程越迅速，转化为生产成果越快，其效用满足程度也越大；反之，投入生产过程越慢，其效用也越低，甚至会过时和失效。(2) 具有所有权不变性，技术商品出售后，卖方的所有权并未消失，仍然掌握着这项技术，售出的只是技术成果的使用权和产品制造权。(3) 售出具有较长的周转性，一项技术成果售出，往往附有技术指导、技术服务等附加协议，直到买者能掌握运用和转化为生产成果为止。
