怠速是汽车的一种工作状况， 指发动机在空档情况下运转。发动机怠速时的转速被称为怠速转速。怠速转速可以通过调整风门大小等来调整其高低。怠速即是发动机“出力不出工”。 在发动机运转时，如果完全放松油门踏板，这时发动机就处于怠速状态。调整怠速时转速不能突高突低，否则会对发动机造成早期磨损，最好到汽车维修部门进行调整。
