年桔为常绿灌木植物，树冠呈圆头型，叶片为长卵型；花白色；为亚热带植物。树势较强，树冠高大，圆头形，条细密。果实扁圆形而小，单果重50~60g；果面较光滑，橙色或橙红色；皮薄易剥肉质较柔软多汁，风味酸甜，较浓，种子多，15粒左右，品质一般。12月下旬至2月成熟，丰产，稍耐贮藏。
