石耳 又名岩耳，一般常见于我国西南山区，诸如湖北恩施，重庆，湖南西部，贵州等地砂岩绝壁上。《施州县志》载：“岩耳系民间珍品，食中佳肴，并有去热清火滋补之功能。和肉作羹或炖鸡，味道鲜美”。古代列为贡品。“采石耳者以长绳一头束腰，一头绾铁钉，陷石罅中渐移，遇上下亦如之”，“间或偶遇飞虎剪绳，则立成齑粉”，故石耳极是珍贵。。
岩小神经由鼓室神经丛发出后，穿过耳蜗窗与前庭窗之间，越过鼓膜张肌窝，走向耳神经节。
