岛叶又称脑岛(insula)，也称瑞尔氏(Reil)岛，位于外侧沟底，借其周围的环状沟与额、颞、顶叶分界。岛叶的尖部称岛阈，余部被斜行的中央岛沟分为后方的岛长回，前方的部分分为三或四个岛短回。藏于大脑外侧沟深部的脑叶，被顶、额、颞叶所覆盖。其功能可能与内脏自主神经等有关。
