小金山是扬州瘦西湖二十四景之一，为瘦西湖中一小岛，原名长春岭，建于清代中叶。当时扬州豪绅为了打通瘦西湖至大明寺的水上通道，在瘦西湖之西北开挖了莲花埂新河，挖河的土堆成了一座小山，这就是今天的小金山。小金山四周环水，水随山转，山因水活。
金山岭长城因经过大小金山而得名。
