电子门锁，是指使用了可编程存储器和数据读取装置，其钥匙是难以复制的。钥匙中有一个3．5×3．5mm的专用电子芯片，存有特定的密码。当钥匙插入锁孔后，密码被送入锁中的存储器，同时产生磁场，并在芯片上的线圈中产生电压，作为开锁电源使用，如果钥匙中的密码与这把锁匹配，锁即被打开。 锁密码可有10的13次方以上的组合，故在今后几十年中可放心使用。但能谈的上实用一些或者大众化一些的还是按键式电子密码锁。
