面横裂为口角的过度裂开，程度不同，轻者表现为皮肤的沟状凹陷，重者裂入口腔，是一种少见的面颌部先天畸形，一般称巨口症，若巨口症同时伴有同侧咬肌、颌骨或耳部发育不良，则系第一、二腮弓畸形所致。面横裂系胚胎发育时期上颌突与下颌突部分或全部未融合所引起，可有单侧裂或双侧裂之分，以男性多见，多为单侧，一般裂隙多终止于颊部，严重则裂入口腔。根据面裂裂隙的不同程度，又有轻、中、重度之分，可分为三度。而第一、二腮弓综合征所呈现的巨口，由于口唇变形，影响语言和进食功能，常有垂液外溢
