指大约相同的成土年龄、类似的母质来源、形成于类似的气候条件，但由于地形和排水的差异而具有不同的特性的土壤系列。同一土链的各部分，在水文、水文地质和成土物质等方面有一定发生上的连续性，土壤随地形起伏依次更替，土壤组合类型相似。因横断面犹如链条而得名。如中国大兴安岭中段东麓的黑土-草甸土-沼泽土，西麓的灰色森林土-淋溶黑钙土-草甸土-沼泽土等均已构成土链。土链研究有助于认识不同区域的土壤形成条件及土壤分布规律，对合理安排农林牧业生产有指导意义
