精品课程是具有一流教师队伍、一流教学内容、一流教学方法、一流教材、一流教学管理等特点的示范性课程。国家精品课程分批建设，荣誉称号自该课程项目批准之日起有效期5年。 2012年起，教育部将原国家精品课程择优升级改造为精品资源共享课，从原国家精品课程以高校教师为服务主体转型为以高校师生和社会学习者为本，以提升教学效果和学习效果为目标，并通过统一平台爱课程网进行共享应用。目前已有近1000门课程上网。
