固体探测器又称固体电离室,是一种以固体材料为工作媒质的核辐射探测器,其代表为半导体探测器。其工作原理与电离室的工作原理相似而不同之处在于载流子的种类:在电离室中载流子为电子和正离子，而在半导体探测器中则为电子和空穴。当一带电粒子射入半导体中,其价带电子可吸收此粒子能量而跃迁至较高能带，于是在价带上留下一空穴。
