古潜山是由长期遭受风化剥蚀的古地形突起被上覆不渗透岩层所覆盖形成圈闭条件,油气聚集其中而形成的。油源来源于古潜山外部,经构造断裂、物理风化和化学风化作用使不同岩类组成的“潜山”储集体遭受风化、淋滤、溶蚀作用而形成渗透性良好的缝网裂缝系统成为油气聚集的空间,而不整合面及断层面等供油通道,则成为古潜山油气藏形成的必要条件。油气藏呈块状分布,不受层位控制。也称潜伏剥蚀突起油气藏。
