变质程度 又称“变质等级”。指变质过程中，原岩受到变质的程度，变质作用可分为低级、中级、高级三个等级，温度、压力愈大，原岩变质愈深。例如，粘土质岩石在低级变质时形成板岩、千板岩，中级变质时形成云母片岩，高级变质时形成片麻岩。
