半人马座，在中国只有南方几个省份在春天的晚上才能看到。座内有两颗亮星，α星中国古代称为南门二，视星等为-0.27m，是全天第三亮星；β星古称马腹一，视星等0.61m，为全天第十一亮星。这两颗星离得很近，中国古代合称它们为“南门双星”，14世纪郑和下西洋时，曾用它们来导航。南门二是一颗三合星，它的一颗11m的伴星（比邻星）离我们只有4.2光年，是距离太阳系最近的恒星。
