刀开关又名闸刀，一般用于不需经常切断与闭合的交、直流低压（不大于500V)电路，在额定电压下其工作电流不能超过额定值。在机床上，刀开关主要用做电源开关，它一般不用来接通或切断电动机的工作电流。刀开关分单极、双极和三极，常用的三极刀开关长期允许通过电流有100 A、200 A、400A、600 A 和1000 A 五种。生产的产品型号有HD(单投)和HS(双投)等系列。
