价值形式亦称 “价值形态”，商品价值的表现形式。一种商品的价值通过交换由另一种商品的使用价值相对地表现出来，是商品内在矛盾的外部表现。商品是使用价值和价值的统一体：作为使用价值，它以商品体本身，即以商品的千差万别的自然形态而存在; 作为价值，它是同一的无差别的人类社会劳动的凝结，是抽象的、看不见也摸不着。正因为商品具有千差万别的不同的使用价值，所以才有商品交换的必要;也因为商品都具有同一质的价值，不同的商品之间才可以交换。价值是商品的社会属性，只有通过商品的交换才能证明其存在。如一丈麻布等于一件上衣，从质上说，这个等式表明麻布和上衣都是一般人类劳动的生产物，从量上说，表明生产一丈麻布和一件上衣耗费了同样多的劳动。麻布交换上衣，麻布的使用价值由麻布自己的物体形态来表现，而麻布的价值则由上衣的物体形态来表现。麻布的价值得到表现，处于相对价值形式，而上衣则用自己的使用价值表现麻布的价值，处于等价形式。价值形式适应商品生产和商品交换的发展，在历史上曾依次出现过四种形式： 简单的价值形式、扩大的价值形式、一般的价值形式、货币价值形式。
