交错层理通常也称为斜层理。它是由一系列斜交于层系界面的纹层组成，斜层系可以彼此重叠、交错、切割的方式组合。其特点是细层理大致规则地与层间的分隔面（主层理）呈斜交的关系，上部与主层理截交，下部与主层理相切。可以利用斜层理的倾向了解沉积物的来源方向。
