乌桕油是指存在于乌桕胚珠外壳的蜡质油脂，和存在于胚珠壳内的液状油脂，简称乌桕梓油或桕油。可用作食用油源、工业油源，又可作为动力油源。此外，在中国，人工炒茶的时候，需要在锅里抹些乌桕油起到润滑作用。 秋末冬初，乌桕枝头挂果累累，蒴果球形，褐色三裂，种子三颗，表面附有一层白色蜡质，叫做“皮油”或“桕蜡”。用种子榨的油叫梓油或青油，浅黄到暗褐色，它的物理化学性质可跟桐油媲美。《天工开物》中说：“鸟桕种子榨出水油，清亮无比。贮小盏之中，独根心草燃至天明，盍诸清油所不及者。
