东北细毛羊体质结实，结构匀称。公羊体重100kg左右，母羊体重51kg左右。公羊有螺旋形角，母羊无角，公羊颈部有1～2个横皱褶，母羊有发达的纵皱褶。被毛密，弯曲正常。东北细毛羊原产于东北，是肉毛兼用细毛羊品种。 辽宁、吉林、黑龙江三省从1959年开始组成东北细毛羊育种委员会,联合育种,实行群众,科技人员和领导干部三结合,把实验室、试验场、农村基点以及选、育、繁、推,紧密结合起来。采用多品种杂交,选育固定,终年放牧,常温育羔等饲养繁育方法,经过十年奋战,于1969年育成了东北细毛羊新品种。
