世界音乐（World music）有时又称民族流行音乐（Ethno pop）。广义的世界音乐可以泛指世界上所有的民族音乐。在西方“欧美文化中心论”为主导的观念下，第三世界的民族音乐及民族化流行音乐，均被成为“世界音乐”。而像美国的黑人民歌——布鲁斯，白人民间音乐——乡村音乐，英国民谣等欧美民间音乐则被他们自己排除在世界音乐之外。Worldbeat和世界音乐相比还是有一些不同，因其通常是西方音乐混合的产物。当然，由于Worldbeat从各种本土音乐中汲取了其风格，乐器，以及韵律，所以仍归属于世界音乐。
