世界男子篮球锦标赛是国际篮球联合会举办的国际性篮球赛事，首届于1950年在阿根廷举办，此后每四年举办一届。从1986年起，男子和女子的比赛都在同一年进行。末届于2010年在土耳其举办，共计16届赛事。中国男篮于1978年第八届男篮世锦赛时开始参赛。 2012年1月28日，国际篮联宣布，每四年举行的篮球世界锦标赛将更名为篮球世界杯（Basketball World Cup），首届篮球世界杯于2014年在西班牙举行。
