漂白层是指由黏粒和/或游离氧化铁淋失，有时伴有氧化铁的就地分凝所形成的土层，其颜色主要取决于所构成的砂粒和粉粒漂白物质。作为中国土壤系统分类诊断表下层之一，它具有以下全部条件：厚度cm，位于A层之下，但在灰化淀积层、黏化层、碱积层或其他具一定坡降的缓透水层(如黏磐、石质或准石质接触面等）之上，可呈波状或舌状过渡至下层，但舌状延伸深度<5cm。
三个土壤剖面均有一定的漂洗和淀积粘化现象，但都不足以定义成漂白层或粘盘层。
