This paper analyzes each case of hoisting overwind, gives proper fix situation of the overwind buffer in overwind height and computing methods of the cushioning force for the buffer.

According to the concerned rules in "safety regulations of Coal mine" author derived formulae to determine the overwind height, so a theoretical basis for mine hoist design was provided.
