The Rat shook him by the shoulder.

"That I do not know," said the Rat simply.

"He wouldn't come," replied the Rat simply.

The Rat never answered, if indeed he heard.

"We can't sit here very long," said the Rat.

The Rat sculled smartly across and made fast.

"They argued from history," continued the Rat.

"Well, I hope not, too," said the Rat heartily.
