"Phase six means that we are seeing continued spread of the virus to countries outside of one region," said Keiji Fukuda.

"This epidemic started, basically, with that name, and the virus that is identified is the swine influenza virus," said WHO's assistant director-general Keiji Fukuda.

"Because the virus is already quite widespread in different locations, containment is not a feasible option," said Dr. Keiji Fukuda, the organization's deputy director general.
