WHEN Marine ecologist Enric Sala first set eyes on Kingman Reef, a remote spot in the Pacific, his heart started to beat like a drum.

Enric Sala and a team of scientists are exploring the pristine waters of Kiribati's southern Line Islands, one of the last healthy, undisturbed places in the ocean.
