The Mole had long wanted to make the acquaintance of the Badger.

The Badger laughed good-humouredly and said, "All right, Ratty!"
“冲进去，扑向他们。”獾子班杰说。
獾子班杰冥思苦想了一阵。
“噢，我知道，我知道。”獾子班杰忧郁地说。
“正是这样，”獾子班杰，“那就是我的观点。”
獾子班杰说：“现在，男孩们，一起来！”

The Mole assented heartily; and the Badger in consequence got very friendly with him.
“你真的不必烦恼，鼠仔。”獾子班杰平静地补充道。
"You really needn't fret, Ratty," added the Badger placidly.
“这件事要拖挺久的呢。”獾子班杰叹息着说。
"It's going to be a tedious business," said the Badger, sighing.

"I've found out a thing or two lately," continued the Badger.
“好了，该睡觉了。”獾子班杰说着站起来，拿起平底烛台。
"Well, it's time we were all in bed," said the Badger, getting up and fetching flat candlesticks.
“坐在那儿，托德。”獾子班杰指着一张椅子和蔼地说。
"Sit down there, Toad," said the Badger kindly, pointing to a chair.
獾子班杰听了很高兴，说：“我勇敢的癞蛤蟆托德说得好！”
The Badger was pleased at that, and said, "There spoke my brave Toad!"
“如果是我干的，那才真让人吃惊呢。”獾子班杰坦白地说。
"It WOULD be astonishing indeed," said the Badger simply, "if I HAD done it."
“喂，你们两个小家伙回家去找妈妈去吧。”獾子班杰温和地说。
"Here, you two youngsters be off home to your mother," said the Badger kindly.
獾子班杰把一切都安排得尽善尽美，宴会非常成功。
The Badger had ordered everything of the best, and the banquet was a great success.
“那么，你们两个，给他把这些脱下来。”獾子班杰简短地命令道。
"Take them off him, then, you two," ordered the Badger briefly.
鼹鼠莫尔和獾子班杰不畏艰险，坚持说，不管怎样，你很快就会回来的。
Mole and Badger, they stuck out, through thick and thin, that you would come back again soon, somehow.
獾子班杰吃完饭后，从他的座位上站起来，站在壁炉前沉思着。
When the Badger had quite done, he got up from his seat and stood before the fireplace, reflecting deeply.
“你知道迟早肯定会有这种结果的，托德。”獾子班杰严厉地解释道。
"You knew it must come to this, sooner or later, Toad," the Badger explained severely.
獾子班杰正式拜访他们，或准确说拜访任何人，都的确是一件了不起的事。
This was a wonderful thing, indeed, that the Badger should pay a formal call on them, or indeed on anybody.
