Windows Embedded Standard 8 targets the specialized device world with all the native security improvements to the stack and core operating system components as Windows 8.

Though most of its user interface is totally new, the Kin runs an operating system based on many of the same components that underpin Windows Phone 7 and the Zune HD.

These include roll-down metallic shades for windows and doors and extra strong roofing components to help keep the roof on the house.

And because Windows 8 tablets are full PCs with expensive components, people are moving to cheaper tablets like the iPad Mini or ones based on Google's Android operating system.

"These results open the potential for visibly transparent polymer solar cells as add-on components of portable electronics, smart windows and building-integrated photovoltaics and in other applications, " said study leader Yang Yang, a UCLA professor of materials science and engineering, who also is director of the Nano Renewable Energy Center at California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI).

The 8X is equipped with the high-end components similar to the Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung ATIV S Windows Phones.
