The Wellcome wing is, however, unique in using the public's changing view of science as the organising principle for an entire museum.

If it all works, and if people actually like it, the Wellcome wing may come to be seen as the prototype for an entirely new kind of science museum a museum of the future, indeed.

It is an idea that has been partially built into the new Wellcome Wing at the Science Museum and the recently opened Darwin Centre at the Natural History Museum - both of which have high-turnover exhibits and bring the public into direct contact with scientists.
