Drivers are being warned to obey weight restrictions on a road bridge or face the prospect of it being entirely shut while improvements are carried out.
These appendages may be well intentioned, but their sheer weight is effectively killing the bridge with love, weakening its structure to such an extent that Paris City Hall is urging tourists to stop the practice.
Lorry Watch, in Bradford on Avon, is now calling for a more permanent way of monitoring traffic on the Town Bridge, which has an 18 tonne weight limit.
The scheme would see volunteers patrol the town's bridge, where there is a 17.5 tonne weight limit, to record the registration plates of any offending vehicles.
