But this is nonsense: what wewant to know is what is the wealth after we have changed the distribution: only then can we try to work out whether we would like to change it some more.
They have entirely ignored almost all of the things we do to change the distribution of income and wealth: they have measured them both before what we do to change them rather than what wewant to know, after we have and thus what more do we need to do.
Instead, suffering from a lack of what wewant with no avenue to get what wewant, we go to war in order to forcibly take that which would otherwise reach us through voluntary, mutually wealth-enhancing exchange.
