While the medical community has traditionally focused on increasing daily amounts of exercise and participation in sports programs, what we should be more concerned with is the time when we are awake (up to 15 hrs per day) which we do not spend exercising.
Consequently, if we want to maximize their chances of optimizing later income we should be devoting resources to helping young adults exercise more, especially with team sports.
We know from other research (coincidentally discussed on NPR this morning) that participation in sports and exercise increases psychological well-being among young people.
