Many of these new "solutions" will be appearing on the supermarket shelves early next year, says Wrap - WasteResourcesActionProgramme - the government agency in charge of cutting packaging.
The guidance was produced in consultation with food manufacturers, supermarkets, trade associations, consumer groups and the Waste and ResourcesActionProgramme (WRAP).
According to the advisory body Waste and ResourcesActionProgramme, households can end up binning up to a quarter of their weekly food and drink purchases.
