The new SYNC AppLink will seamlessly integrate apps using the vehicle's voice and userinterface controls, including buttons on the steering wheel, increasing eyes-on-the-road and hands-on-the-wheel time.
Moreover, the 2010 study "Staying Connected on the Go: A Look at In-Vehicle Smartphone Integration Systems" conducted by the Consumer Electronics Association reports that 55 percent of smartphone owners prefer voice commands as their userinterface for in-car smartphone integration, making the business case for SYNC and AppLink even more compelling.
The two will face off when they are finally available, each sporting its own unique take on what kind of userinterface people will use (voice control and a small touchscreen or augmented reality).
The application features a simplified userinterface and textual information that is spoken aloud using voice synthesis to aid navigation of the device.
