The fatal pushings prompted Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, City Councilmember James Vacca and some safety advocates to call on the MTA to do more on the issue.
"Cyclists and pedestrians are being killed and seriously injured all over our city, once every 35 hours in fact, " New York City Councilman James Vacca said at a hearing this year.
Council member James Vacca, the chairman of the transportation committee, upbraided Department of Transportation officials at a public hearing earlier this spring, criticizing everything from restaurant delivery bikers to a rise in the cost of city parking lots.
