Strathclyde Police said it carried out a number of "test purchases" in the area after complaints about problems linked to under-age drinking in the area.
Dr Nick Sheron, a liver specialist at Southampton University Hospitals Trust, believes the "easy accessibility of cheap alcohol" is one of the major factors fuelling under-age drinking.
According to a 2006 Unicef report, more than 125 million children under age 5, most from developing countries, live in households without access to a clean drinking-water source.
