The play coincides with a growing campaign to award Tull a posthumous Military Cross.
Tull, of Landhill Farm, Ashwater, Devon admitted setting up a cannabis farm with 89 plants.
As a footballer, Mr Tull joined Tottenham Hotspur in 1909, becoming the first black professional outfield footballer.

More recently he has been working on a screenplay inspired by Tull, with the Octagon's artistic director, David Thacker.
When they could not secure funding for a film, Mr Thacker commissioned Mr Vasili to write the play, called Tull.
Tull, who was killed aged 29 in World War I, was recommended for a Military Cross but never received one.

He went on to engineer albums by the likes of Jethro Tull and Mott the Hoople, with producing credits including Free's Highway and Television's critically-acclaimed Marquee Moon.
Mr Tull, a 2nd Lieutenant in the army, was recommended for the medal because he guided his platoon to safety after they came under heavy fire in Italy.

However, in 1917 the British were severely short of men and Tull was experienced, a good leader of men and suitable officer material, so they broke the rules.

They told the hearing Hammerton had been involved in the attempted sale of a host of other star names, including Elvis Presley, Mick Jagger, Paul and Linda McCartney and Jethro Tull.
The author of War Horse, Michael Morpurgo, who has written a book inspired by Tull's story, called A Medal for Leroy, and Brian Binley, MP for Northampton South, are supporting the campaign.
Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson, who enters his 45th year in the music industry in 2008, is made an MBE, as is Martin Mills, founder of the Beggars Group of independent labels.
The court heard that Tull used the drug to alleviate symptoms of claustrophobia and post traumatic stress disorder after his Warrior armoured car was blown up during the first Gulf War in 1991.
"Peter was in Yes when they were formulating what would become their classic sound and they were as much a figurehead of progressive rock in its classic era as the likes of Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Jethro Tull, " he said.
