After the closure of the UNESCO International Safeguarding Campaign for Mohenjodaro in 1997, the UNESCO Division for Cultural Heritage and World Heritage Centre reinitiated their collaboration and developed a post campaign strategy in 2004, which identified further areas of interventions such as: management structure, conservation and stabilization, training and capacity building, site and tourism development.

Action will focus on the following main area: preservation of moveable heritage, with special emphasis on study and publication, inventories, capacity-building and training of staff in protecting cultural property and assets, museology and conservation, as well as manuscripts.

In addition, UNESCO provides continuous support to the Department of Antiquities in the form of capacity building and training in site management and conservation.

Because the link between people and plants is so fundamental to the conservation of both biological and cultural diversity, it concentrates on the core of our capacity building: training in applied ethnobotany, providing people with inter-disciplinary skills highly relevant to conservation action.
