In his acceptance speech he embraced minorities and promised to tackle practical problems, such as traffic jams, public security and rubbish collection, that had been worsened by revolutionary disorder.
Organisers also said increased security measures put in place after the Glasgow airport terror attack had made a "major contribution to the trafficproblems".
