Coram's Fields was part of an 18th-century foundling hospital, while TootingBec Common was reputedly a transit camp for soldiers heading off to the Napoleonic Wars.
Police are also appealing to anyone who uses the path at the back of TootingBec Athletics Track to contact them if they have recently seen anything there which was out of the ordinary.
