"This was a terrible crime of violence, " said Jeffrey Toobin, CNN's senior legal analyst.

"Historically, there have been governors who appointed themselves to Senate vacancies, " Toobin said.
"It is a place of extraordinary security, 23 hours a day in cells, one hour of recreation, " Toobin said.
"He is an ordinary criminal defendant at this point, and he is likely to remain that way, " Toobin said.
The Justice Department's seizure of AP's phone records appears to have been legal, said CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin.
