In each stride horses lift all four hooves off the ground at once, something that George Stubbs, themostfamous horse painter of the last 300 years, had guessed at but which, until Muybridge, had never been proved.
Built 200 yards from the site of the original theatre where many of Shakespeare's mostfamous plays made their debut, including Hamlet, King Lear and Macbeth, the Globe is putting on four of the Bard's plays this year in celebration of the anniversary.
