The company said it was working with unions and would keep employees informed, while the union Unite has pledged to put pressure on thefirmandthe government to keep thefactory open.
Planning permission allowing part of thefactory to remain was granted by Knowsley Council, but thefirm said delays in its approval were unfair and had wasted resources on both sides.
Management at thefirm have said the shutdown of thefactory is under discussion but operations will be wound down immediately and will cease by the end of the year.
